What is Reading Olympics?

Reading Olympics is a reading club open to 4th and 5th graders. It is designed to promote reading comprehension, teamwork, and self-confidence. Students will work with their teammates over six months to collectively read all 32 Reading Olympics books. The books range in reading levels from 3rd to 6th grades and cover many genres and topics. Each Reading Olympian is responsible to read at least five books.

Teams meet monthly to check in on the team’s progress. During this time they build camaraderie, share what they are reading, practice answering questions, make up cheers for their team, and develop strategies for the competition.

In the spring, the teams will compete in the Olympic competition. During the competition, we will ask teams questions about the books. We will award correct answers with a point and will award the top three teams with gold, silver, and bronze medals at the medal ceremony at the conclusion of the program.

What are the Requirements?

  1. Read five books from the Reading Olympics list.
  2. Complete a reading response activity from the Reading Olympics choice board.
  3. Attend five monthly meetings.

What is the cost?

There is no cost to sign up.
